Well, i feel like the colors are almosy more impoetant that the clothes themselves. You can still look dark academia if you wear long pants with a black t-shirt and smth on your hair, fancy shoes or short, thick heels. Or short pladded pants with a white/cream/brown/black shirt with shoes, and golden, bronze or black accessories. It can be skirts and dresses that are pladded too. Its so much more than just sweaters and pants, it's the colors, acessories, etc.

I loved this video. It helped me a lot. I'm gonna start with some key pieces and elements that I can use in a lot of combinations because I'm poor until I transition my whole wardrobe. I always wanted to dress like it but didn't know what to buy. If you have any tips to initial key pieces in whimgoth we can have without ending up with a bunch of clothes that don't match, I'd love to watch it.

I think this kind of describes my style (or as I call it, "feral book gremlin core") Few more things I want to add: -Really scuffed up shoes (in my case, the Doc Martens I scuffed up by wearing all the time and falling off my bike)/something that just looks well-worn -More elaborate makeup than you would expect from academia aesthetics-- I'm borrowing this from some of my more punk high school classmates at a school with a VERY strict uniform. Like, colorful liquid/powder eyeshadows, a basic graphic liner look, really out there lipsticks, you name it, someone probably was wearing it because one of the few graces my school granted us was literally no rules on makeup. I'm throwing this in on the grounds that this was the ONE thing my classmates put effort into. Also because I like it. -Sweatpants under skirts. Again, borrowing from high school. You might cringe, and it's not for everyone. But this was kind of an unofficial part of the uniform thanks to COVID. -In that vein, basically any hoodie paired with a fancier skirt/pants. Another one that quite a few of my classmates got away with. -Cutting your own hair short because you don't have the energy to deal with that. -In that vein, DIY hair dye. Preferably done at 2 AM for maximum chaos. -Mismatched socks. This one is just kind of a necessity for some students because those disappear. What are you going to do, throw them out? -Rolling the skirt so short it's a belt and you can see the shorts underneath. Yes, people did this. It was very much not allowed. -PANTS. Or skirts. Just throw gender out the window. -Lots of pins/patches. Preferably on bags. Preferably held on by two safety pins slowly losing their sanity. Yes, that's me. I did this. -Whatever you want (look at a photo of a lecture hall and select three people to be your style inspiration)

For years, us Millennials were mocked and ridiculed for our nostalgia and wearing/owning of our old 90s things. Now our entire childhood aesthetics are being brought back by folks that weren't even alive then - some of those the same folks that mocked us! 😲😲😲 (Not referring to anyone here - you all seem pretty cool). Green. Half of the rooms in Ghibli movies are some shade of green. Also things hanging from the ceiling. And for Mononoke (which you didn't mention), one can go for tree-related patterns and a few old masks on the wall. This gave me back my old itch of a steampunk/Nausicaa decorated bathroom !

I'm a '94 kid, and i'm absolutely obsessed with the Y2K aesthetic, and i remember this started when the first lockdown happened in 2020, and i just went on this nostalgic rabbit hole on this platform, and rediscovered everything i loved from that era, and i missed it so much, my love of the aesthetic made its way into my Sims 4 builds, and now i won't build anything else, because it's my comfort zone. I guess i just miss a time where i wasn't so aware as a kid to just how horrific the world was, and i kind of want that innocence and happier times back, you know? But, like listening to the music, watching the movies and shows from that era, and playing the games i used to love is kind of like therapeutic for me now. It actually helps me cope with a lot of things going on in my life, and it's just nice to revisit a simpler time, and have that mental escape when i need it, you know? I even love it so much, that i will even do music in the style of house music of that time, because it's just become a part of who i am now. It's also expanded into a love for the aesthetics of analog horror, frutiger aero, grunge, cyberpunk (quite different, but the use of neon and electronic signs is probably the most retro thing about it), mid-2000's nightclub vibes...anything like that. It just simply never stopped for me. Now, i just fully embrace my love of that era, and appreciate what was so good about that time in my life. :)

my grandma and grandaunt already made my childhood house (until now) look like its from a ghibli movie with vibrant paint and flowers and paintings ALLLL OVER the house inside and out and sometimes it can be a mess once i move out or inherit the house when i turn into an adult, i'd amp up the vibes and beautiful mess my grandmas especially how i got my messiness from my grandma. i have the biggest urge to paint murals on the walls and ceilings one day, make origami cranes and hang it from the high ceilings and put little trinkets bought from thrift shops like what my grandma does AAAAAH ITS SO FUN

My favorite thing when learning about Pirates, was that a lot of of people who were labeled as "pirates" were just people who didn't fit into social norms and somehow got a boat. So a lot of women, people of color, QUEER PEOPLE, and anyone else who pretty much felt like an outcast would set sail as a group and just live their lives doing what they want.
